The Kangra painting style originated in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India, during the mid-18th century under the patronage of the Kangra rulers, particularly Raja Sansar Chand (1775–1823). It evolved from the earlier Basohli school of Pahari painting but distinguished itself with a softer, more romantic aesthetic.
This painting made by Sheela Devi Sancheti in 1962 is a masterpiece of Kangra Style, watercolour on Kents Paper. This art work depicts Lord Krishna with his beloved Lady Radha sitting on a tree branch.
